The best and worst in experimental music

Experimental music is not meant to be very accessible or well-understood, but there are some bands that do manage to be both fresh, and accessible. And there are others, who I just don’t get at all. Here are my own favorites and least favorites such bands. In parenthesis, find free, legal, promo mp3 downloads.

4. Deerhoof (“Offend Maggie“)
5. Beirut (“My Night With the Prostitute from Marseille“)
Ok, Beirut are listenable, but just barely.

I’m really torn when it comes to Múm…some of their songs I find absolutely fantastic. The rest – hardly bearable. Yes, nothing in-between.
I’ve said it before and will say it again : Sebadoh! I’m not sure if you’ve ever checked them out, so I made a playlist on YouTube, just because I know you have better things to do than look for random bands online.
I don’t claim they are the best band ever to have existed, but their 1994 album “Bakesale” sounds an awful lot like a lot of these songs.
Thanks, I had a look. They sound ok, yeah, although not very catchy (except possibly for “ocean”).
If you can find their album “Bakesale” cheaply, it is worth listening to all the way through. They are one of the pioneers of the Lo-Fi movement, along with Pavement (who are also worth checking out, but a lot more quirky.)
You should try Black Dice.
Specifically, listen to “Chicken Shit” off of “Repo” at full volume all the way through.
