Bill, the camera already has the latest firmware, I checked that before reviewing it.

Eugenia,

Did you try upgrading the firmware in the camera? It may or may not be "caused" by a firmware bug, but it may be correctable by programming in color compensation. Here's a link to the firmware download:

I don't think it's software Ivan. I believe it's a lens issue. Software doesn't create this kind of problems.

I saw a similar purple dot with another camera test. It is caused by the auto focus. It is a bug in the firmware. When taking still images, the AF takes measurements and then shuts down. With this camera, it is constantly on.
A bug like this for me is reason enough to flunk the camera.

ps
your audio recaptcha tool is a big bummer... I hate it

I agree. Kodak is not the glorious company of the past anymore. This V1233 camera costs $160 refurbished btw. For an extra $40 you get the V1253 which has an even better video mode, stereo mics, large 3.1" LCD, and the same purple spot when zooming-in -- although not as glaring as in the V1233. Check my V1253 video on Vimeo to see that the spot is not as obvious in the current model, but still there nonetheless.

It actually seems halfway decent for $200, good for a video-capable camera you could always have in your pocket, but man, that purple spot really ruins it. It's hard to believe they could release a product with such a glaring defect.

It only happens when you zoom-in, apparently. It seems to be either a sensor or a lens design problem. The V1253, the higher model, has this problem as well.

In almost all scenes there is a purple dot in the mid center that is really bothering me. Have you noticed? What is it?
