>LG manufacture most of the high quality flat panels

Memson, read again my comment above. Just because some departments are doing well, you can't put the whole corporation under the same basket. These are big companies we are talking about, you can't say that the whole company is good or bad.

What I hate is the cellphone division of LG.

LG manufacture most of the high quality flat panels in use today. (well, apparently Samsung are almost equal, but as I understood it, LG are ahead of them.) LG are also one of the leading R&D companies for the future of display technology (they do a lot of the OLED research.)

LG is actually the same company as "Goldstar" was.. I was quite shocked when I realised that.

LG is a corporation, and as such, different people are working on different departments. Each dpt has its own rules. Thing is, cellphones is not a strong point for LG in my opinion. LG has ZERO software support for unlocked phones, and they would release updates for locked carrier phones only under pressure from a carrier. They are not responsible about it, because it's not part of how they do cellphone business. Apple or Nokia would never have had this luxury.

LG makes a *lot* more than just phones, and that might be part of the issue. We have an LG refrigerator, for example, and I've been quite happy with it, but fridges don't typically get firmware updates either. :-)
