Actually, I was a fan of the X-Files and I voted canceled in the Slashdot poll. Let the corpse rest in peace instead of trying to resurrect it just to wring some more cash out.

I don't think they can continue with the myth arc, at least to any satisfiable degree. Last they left, it's taken a life of its own, with global implications that go far, far, far beyond Mulder and Scully. X-Files has used the impression that they share the same world, just behind closed doors -- they'd have to break with that sharply.

All I can see if they continue with the arc and follow it to its conclusion rather than a lame cop out, is a bad Independence Day or War of the Worlds knock off.

If not for the writers strike and a huge Phile in a FOX executive office, this movie wouldn't have been made at all. Frankly, after the way CC and Co. screwed up the final two seasons of the show, he'd be the last person I'd trust to write a decent script, much less direct a film.

I think the majority of the fans will be disappointed with TXF2. Some want mytharc, some want MOTW, some want hot monkey love, some even want the return of William.

With Philes' expectations so high, there's no way this film can make everyone happy.

>but CC and Co. didn’t ask me.

Which is where the problem lies. Here they are, creating a product, without doing any product research. They hope that they can capitalize on the X-Files brand name itself, just like Canon did yesterday with the announcement of the HV30 camera which is nothing different compared to the HV20. If Chris Carter was more of a businessman and less of "I want it this way because I want it this way", the fans would be happier, and the movie would make more tickets. The majority of the fans care mostly about the mytharc, that's the painful truth.

FOX wants to attract a broad audience, including one that doesn't know about the mytharc. I'd also rather the mytharc questions be addressed, but CC and Co. didn't ask me. ;)

Regardless, I would hate a MOTW movie... It's wasted potential and wasted money for FOX.

Hi Eugenia,

The movie is NOT a prequel and it supposedly takes place in the present day. I doubt FOX will OK a TXF3 unless this one makes huge bucks.

By the way, I've seen Duchovny in person and the man does NOT look old. He looks mighty fine. Watch Californication and see.
