So what if you have 3G? This phone does NOT have 3G support at all. So if they don't have the budget to add 3G, they better at least add EDGE.

Stacy - aha! Weell, that explains it. Vodaphone, largest mobile carrier in the UK went straight to 3G and own most of the 3G infrastructure in the UK. Orange, T Mobile and O2 usee either Voafone or 3 (a mainly 3G based povider) to carry their 3G. I suspect Orange, etc, bend the truth slightly in some cases and call EDGE '3G' though. Noo one talks about EDGE in this country though, coz everyone has access to 3G, and has done for something like 5 odd years. It would seem edge was a step backwards.

I'd never heard of edge till Eugenia first mentioned it, but 3G had been been availlable here for years and years before that.

But we have 3G over most of the mainland England, and populated parts of Scotland and Wales. Not sure about NI. I see people with laptops and 3G pmcia/usb modems every day (I commute to London from he south coast, via Guildford.) There is a black spot from Petersfield to Haslemere, but that is on Vodafone and most people seem to use Tmobile. 3G is very, very, very popular here. You can evn buy 3G modems with data contracts and speeds to rival low-cost/low-end ADSL for about the same price. Good if you're not in an ADSL area.

I don't doubt we do have edge, but it is not called edge if we do.

EDGE is very popular in less developed countries in Europe, and very-very popular in USA. I am pretty sure you have EDGE everywhere in UK too. No matter if it's "popular" with the people or not, the point remains, this phone does not have 3G. And so even UK people would benefit from EDGE support in this case. GPRS only goes up to 8 kb/sec, and EDGE can go up to 22 kb/sec. So this remains a bad decision from FIC.

Well, EDGE is not popular in the UK either. I've no idea what it is even called here. We have GPRS and 3G here and that is it.
