Vegas won't work on 64bit, you will have to install a 32bit WinXP partition for it (not via emulation).

Ok you have convinced me. I downloaded the trial to Vegas, tried to install it and hit a wall :-(. So then I hunt around and see that Sony doesn't support Windows XP64. uhh. . . wow. Thats a bit of a show stopper right there. :-/ I need my 4 gigs of ram for all the other stuff I do. . . and I'm not about to go get Vista. None of my apps work there either.

Are you keyed into the Vegas community? Are there people you know that could get it to work on XP64?

> The point is, if you don’t like hearing bad things, don’t give people a reason to tell them to you, don’t open up.

Michael, you expressed your opinion, a right that's given to you by this blog which has a comment section, and I wrote back to that opinion with mine. What infuriates me is not you writing your mind, but writing offtopic. If you want to discuss THAT post that's already old and archived, you just email me back about it, not comment here.

Regarding the color grading, the noise was on the original footage and it's part of the look I wanted to have anyway.

>But not being native English speaker I am reluctant to post my videos on YouTube.

You don't have to speak on your videos. I don't. I just put nature and travel videos up.

>I am looking for a better camcorder too

Read my article about camcorder advice. There is some good info there.

Hi, I left email this time, feel free to write back. I did not mean to hurt you, but when you wrote that blog entry did you really think that everyone would have told you "oh, how cute"? The point is, if you don't like hearing bad things, don't give people a reason to tell them to you, don't open up. I don't, well, I am trying not to. You wrote about yourself that you tell truth directly, so some people think you are bitchy. Well, why don't you accept truth as well? I said what I thought. Anyway, I apologize if I sounded rude.

Your video. first image: I don't like this bleach thing. Too contrasty for my tastes, and there are very few situations when I like to see blown-out image. Also, it does not fit the setting. Also, your footage is noisy, but it is not obvious on the original footage, but the grading brings the noise out, does not look good at all. Stuff like this obviously needs more light during the shoot.

The second one in the bedroom is much better, but the window curtain is blown out. I don't like blown out stuff, but this is me. When I was choosing an HDTV, I tried three different makes and models, I bought my own colorimeter and I tried to achieve as gentle gamma curve as possible. I hate when I cannot see details in shade or in highlights, I start thinking is something wrong with my TV?

I am an amateur myself. I just bought my fist cheapie camcorder half a year ago, but now I want more. I read books, I try shooting meaningful videos, I am looking for a better camcorder too. But not being native English speaker I am reluctant to post my videos on YouTube.

Your 24p howto is interesting. I have to reread how to add plugins to VMS. I have VMS6 and it does not allow adding plugins.

If you want a scene with a dramatic look, the grading should be dramatic, over the top, too IMHO. For normal video work for all the family, I agree, there is no reason to overdo it, but if you are shooting a movie, there is.

Honestly:

I like the softer first picture better! I think the second one is a little bit "overdone". It happens often that people overdo color saturation and/or picture sharpness.

Less is often more!
