Chavez closes TV station

“Venezuela’s most-watched television station — and outlet for the political opposition — went off the air after the government refused to renew its broadcast license. […] Chavez has accused station of supporting the failed 2002 coup against him.”
I blogged about the guy before. I don’t think that Chavez tries to be a dictator or anything like that, but perhaps he overreacts to things all too easily (just like I do). I hope he gets back to his right mind soon enough and oppose his antagonists in a more… politically correct way.

He overreacts? Come on Eugenia. When TV stations are banned by “overreactions” something is obviously very wrong.
You hope he gets back to his right mind? When did he have one?
I am afraid that your dislike for the Bush administration makes you overlook that Chavez is an authoritarian scum. I dislike Bush too but politicians like Chavez are of course NOT the right answer.
He himself tried to organize a coup in 1992. I think dictators should be by definition paranoid and I don’t see any reason to shut down the station if you don’t have anything to hide. He may be more dangerous than he appears.
I never said that he is the right answer. I just said that he should snap out of it. I truly don’t believe that he THINKS that he is doing a bad thing. He can’t see it right now, he seems blind. I am not criticizing him for all his career as a politician (I know nothing of it), I only criticize his latest decision — which to me, from far away, does seem like an overreaction — although someone who knows his doings better will possibly characterize him worse. That’s all I am saying. If Venezuela has any laws in place to regulate such decisions, then they should use them against him.
