I read quite carefully, but we may (yet again) have different meanings to “Basic operation”. For me it is talk and message functions (speak and sms).

BTW, I hope you have tested the new PC-Suite and Lifeblog PC-SW as well. These programs give a lot of people additional value.

Incidently: PC-Suite told me that an uppgrade to my N95 was avaibable when I connected the device to my PC (forgot to mention this earlier on the subject of uppgrades).

Read the review. Good work.

For VoIP I would choose something from the E-line on Nokia phones. they have the battery for longer Wi-Fi usage.

The E90 has gotten a nice reception at <a href='http://www.allaboutsymbian.com' rel='nofollow' rel="nofollow">www.allaboutsymbian.com</a>, but it quite big and heavy (210gr.).

But mayby if you have the N95 on a charger and use BT it’s handy that way?

Even basic usage is problematic: the phone gets hot as hell after 20 minutes of talk. Anyways, as I said, read <a href="http://www.osnews.com/story.php/17837/Review-Nokia-N95/" rel="nofollow">my review</a> at osnews. You don’t seem to have read it.

Also remember, a product is evaluated for all its features, not only the basic ones. I GOT this phone BECAUSE of VoIP. Now, if grandma Lola does not want VoIP this is not my problem. I DO. And I need it to work 100% perfectly.

> I haven’t notice you complain about the basic operation

Then you don’t read carefully. Read my review on osnews too.

Another problem with these phones, at least in my opinion, is that they really don’t receive the lifetime support they could.

I’m willing to be that resources inside Nokia are being stripped from this phone as I type this, and being moved to work on the follow up to the N95, whenever that’s due out. It’s been my experience that Nokia does not really properly support their phones more than a few months they’re released.

Just once I’d like to see Nokia offer a S60 level upgrade (FP1 to FP2, and so on) for one of their phones. ‘Cos the smarter kids in the room know that it’s technically possible…

First of all..I haven’t had your problems. For me it delivers and much better than anything else before. For me the important things were: HDSPA, the new S60 Browser, screen, the camera and VIDEO. The best surprise so far: how intuitive it is to change the orientation of the screen with the dual action slider.

Two, to contradict a point you made: If a person doesn’t know he/she can’t upgrade the FW, they propably are not using the more sophisticated features of the phone. I haven’t notice you complain about the basic operation..And I think upgrading is getting to be more common now. That 95 % mayby true with basic and feature phones, but not with smartphones..But you insist on comparing apples to whatever..

Third: I guess we just disagree. Like I said, I don’t mind, because I think it is a computer and I’m willing to take the small pain what it takes to live on the front lines.

I have used smartphones for three years and I know N95 is the real thing. For me anyway. You may disagree. You can even call me stupid.

> I still would hesitate to slam a device which is going to grow and get better over it’s whole life span.

WHAT?!!? You got to be bloody kidding me! So, you are ok to have a $750 device shit on you just because “it will possibly get better in the future”. Man, sorry to say this, but I think you are either naive, or just plain stupid.

Stand up and behave like a consumer who respects himself. Nokia should have NOT released this phone when they did.

95% of the users NEVER upgrade their firmware. For these users the bugs will always remain!

Of course it’s just right to warn that there are bugs. I still would hesitate to slam a device which is going to grow and get better over it’s whole life span.

The features are going to get better and Nokia is going to offer more features in form of FW uppgrades and SW in the future. No feature phone can match that.

A simple, slight, adjustment in the perspective would do a world of good in this matter too. Everything isn’t perfect, but if we going to get these things better, we have to take risks.

I think it’s good that somebody is trying. Don’t forget that Nokia is quite aggressive in developing these features and services. In many things they think of the consumer first and operators second. Case in point: VoIP.

I disagree with you on embedded devices. S60 is a different beast to a Sony feature phone. Look what difficulties SE has had with the P990i or whatever was the number of the most resent P-series- And don’t get me started with Samsungs..they are just pretty toys..:)

I think with N95’s feature set it is a bit unfair to compare it with a simple phone used for talking.

Nokia has the best VoIP by far. I’ll bet they get things sorted out with the N95 as well

>Look what difficulties SE has had with the P990i

I know of these problems. And I know that smartphones are more complex. I mean, I even <a href="http://eugenia.blogsome.com/2006/06/08/phone-complexity-sign-o-the-times/" rel="nofollow">blogged</a> about this months ago.

But this does not mean that I will sit down and take it in the ass *every fucking single time* that Nokia and others decide to ship instead of sitting down the debug the damn thing first.

The N95 is a $750 phone. It better be PERFECT. Or they deserve the bad publicity. Besides, these are bugs that are VERY EASY to catch.
