OMG, the chemicals! There’s no need to eat this pre-processed sludge and put yet more money in the hands of the food profiteers.

Fresh fruit and vegetables, organic free-range eggs, fresh milk and live yoghurt (there’s not much fat in it to begin with), bread made with good-quality flour and plenty of fish or “white” meat - that’s the basis of a good diet, imho. If you want to lose a few pounds, then go easy on the carbohydrates, on fried and fatty stuff, on sugar and butter (use olive oil) and on obviously fattening stuff like huge cakes and mounds of milk chocolate. Essentially, “no more second helpings”. Add in a decent walk each day and/or buy a bicycle.

Works very well here and, hey, it all tastes much nicer, too. A combination of good food and some light exercise may not leave you at the weight you want to be but it will leave you at the weight that is right for you, imho. The first may make you anxious and the second is much more likely to leave you happy.

Just my 2 cents. A pesky ailment means I’ve had to take all this on board quick time.

My metabolism will slow down, as it has before. But I am not screwed. In fact, a number of health problems I have is because of my weight. I have to take it off, one way or another. I also NEED a slower metabolism, because of my Chron’s-like syndrome that I have (it is not Chron’s, but it’s close).

And besides, I wake up usually at 10 AM or 11 AM, and I eat lunch at around 12:30 PM. I really don’t need to eat breakfast at that time, trust me. It would be moving my lunch time too far in the day if I did. I can assure you, if I am hungry, I EAT.

As for the 800 cals per day, that’s enough for me, given the fact that I am very short (1.52m) and I live a VERY seditary life (I hate exercising these days). It is the perfect diet spot for someone like me. I can do 700 cals too, but it’s a bit too tight.

I am not a newbie Shelley. I am not the type that works 8 hours a day and needs the energy. I do NOTHING everyday, I just sit my ass down.

Problem with the “real” products is that for the same breakfast recipe above you have to consume 200 calories for the same amount of food, while with the products I mentioned it is only 100 (and it’s 250 cals if you use oil to fry the eggs).

If I was not on a diet, I would go with your proposal, of course. But when on a low-cal diet, _you have_ to use substitutes sometimes in order to bring down the calorie count. It’s inevitable. It’s how it is.

Additionally, the kind of diet you propose is simply a “healthy diet” that might or might NOT result in loss of weight. But I am in need of losing weight, so I have to consume foods that offer low calorie count. IF your diet results in loss of weight, it will be very slow. I need something that’s faster, without compromising my health. The kind of diet I do is pretty good.

Thom is right. Not eating within an hour of waking up (unless you do cardio training first thing in the morning and ONLY cardio training) is a very bad idea. So is only eating 800 kcal a day. Your metabolism is going to slow way down and you’re only going to be much fatter in the long run. I don’t understand why someone so seemingly intelligent would do something so dumb. Especially with all the health problems you have. Doing something like this may make things seem OK in the very short term. In the long term, you’re screwed.

C’mon Thom… I wake up very late usually, so I can easily have my lunch a couple of hours later. That’s why I skip it: because lunch is too darn close. Today, that I woke up at a more dignifying time, I did have breakfast. <img src='http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' />
