What’s the hurry? I don’t think it is healthy to lose weight quickly. I’m changing how I eat for life.

Then, you lost 1-2 days of your goal! As I explained above, to lose 1kg, you need to not eat 7,000-9,000 calories. It’s a proven fact. If you eat, let’s say, 3,000 calories in your indulgement day, you just DELAYED your goal off 1 day. After 1 year of dieting, you are delayed by 12 days.

This might work for you because you eat quite a few calories, but it would not work for me. If I eat 2,200 calories that day, I lost TWO days off my diet. By the end of the year, I would be 25 days off my target date. This means that instead of achieving my target weight by December 25th, I would need to wait for January 20th.

I don’t understand. After my indulgence day, I don’t cut down the other days. Every day except the indulgence day I eat 1700 calories. The one uncontrolled day is to cancel the starvation effect and to jumpstart my metabolism.

This would only work if you had a very flexible calorie plan. Mine is usually between 700 and 800 cals, so I can’t just consume less than that in any given day just because I ate a lot the day before. My plan is so low, that it doesn’t go lower…

Well, part of the reason for the 1/month indulgement is to kick-start your metabolism and get it out of starvation mode. _IF_ that is true, then you would burn more calories per day the rest of the month, and the math would be back on my side. I’ll let you know if it works. I have been on a 2-week plateau, so today is my first indulgence day. I’ll see if it works or not.

Unfortunately, the math won’t be on your side regarding the once-a-month indulgement. You see, to lose 1kg, you need to remove off your diet between 7,000 and 8,000 calories. If you work hard all month to be on a low-cal diet and suddenly you go well over your calorie allowance you can be set back 2-3 days from your goal.

It’s even worse for me that I am on a very low calorie diet. If I indulge once per month with let’s say, 2,000 calories for that day instead of the usual 700, this means that I lost 2-3 days of work!

Isn’t there low fat cow’s milk available in the US? In Germany there is low fat cow’s milk with 50 cals per 100ml and 1.5% of fat. This is very common and it’s available everywhere.

And after you reach your desired weight are you still going to amuse yourself with the partly eating habits you’ve become used to for a brief amount of time

Actually, this is how I am going to eat for the rest of my life. Just look at is as a budget. Some people go on a “budget” with their money. When they get off of the “budget”, they spend like crazy again. It can’t be some temporary thing.

By the way, one of my strategies is to periodically indulge myself. Basically, one day at the beginning of each month I will eat whatever. The purpose of this is to keep the body from going into starvation mode. Don’t fight your body, work with it.

As I have written before, from the moment that you have gain weight in your life and then lost it through a diet, it is a battle against your body’s needs until the day you die. Your liver always wants to get to its previous fat status and so it will send signals to your brain to keep you eating as much as before the diet.

So basically, diets don’t work, but only if you don’t have the strength to say “no” to yourself. The trick is to never gain weight in your life. From the moment that you have, you are screwed. You will have to become a masochist to avoid gaining it back.

Diets don’t work. Take it from someone who lost 100+ pounds by just being a little more habit and changing a few nasty habits I used to have a few years back.
