Tagging this a a “herbal product” is quite misleading, even if all ingredients do come from plants. I mean, morphine is also a “herbal product”, but it can’t be sold in a food store for anyone who wants who take a shot at it.

In western countries we have such a broken culture regarding medicines, no matter if they are “natural” or “chemical”… I think we need education above all, more than laws to ban certain products (though some products could be banned in the meanwhile…)

Thom, one pill of those equal 4 espressos, and you are supposed to get 3 daily. That’s 12 espressos per day. No matter if drinking some espresso is good or bad, taking these pills IS.

Common person thinks whatever is patented automatically should be bestowed greatness! Any combination of chemicals and the process involved in manufacturing them can be patented. You just need to prove the novelty factor.

The Wiki article for Leptoprin gives the following ingredients:
* Vitamin B6 25mg (1250% RDA)
* Acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) 324mg
* Caffeine 200mg
* Green Tea Extract (no amount listed)
* L-Tyrosine (no amount listed)
* Kelp 100mg
* Ephedrine 20mg
* Cayenne (no amount listed)
* Rice flour base

Hardly worth $153….and with the Ephedrine content very close to the old limit (removed since 2000, I guess) imposed by FDA, it may be prudent to think twice before purchasing!

Thanks,
IntellectualVillage

Espresso’s actually contain LESS caffeine than regular coffees. Many people wrongly assume that because Espresso has a strong taste, that it contains more caffeine. This is FALSE, as caffeine is actually tasteless, and the taste of a coffee says NOTHING about its caffeine contents.

Espresso has such a strong taste because it contains a lot of dissolved coffee dust (Espresso does NOT use special coffee beans; an Espresso is JUST hot water being pressured 9+ bar through very finly grinded regular coffee beans), not because it supposedly contains more caffeine.

Other than that, caffeine is not bad for your health. As with everything, moderation is the key term. As a dietist once told me: “Oranges are really bad for you. When you eat 40 of them each day, you’ll be dead within a week.”
