One could argue that the obscene number of children that die of hunger or malaria and other diseases that are considered as eclipsed by the WHO.org should tear us apart more than a bomb attack. Hell the #1 reason of death in the non developing world is car accident.

> Muslims getting pissed over cartoons is way different.
> Mohammad died 632 A.D. The WTC attack happend 5 years ago.

Time doesn’t make it different. Look at the holocaust. If you even dare refer to it in a slightly disrespectful way you’re immediatelly a hater.
Btw it puzzles me to see the progeny of people who’ve been traumatised, carrying this oversensitivity with them.

>Grow a thicker skin,
>Get over it.
Agreed

>That remote has an off button, you know.
While you may indeed turn off the medium, you can’t expect people not to nag about unpleasant content. This is especially more so when you pay to watch it.

Their faith is as current as WTC is for you.

Showing the face of a religious leader(long dead) in cartoon form is not the same as showing rubble from a building that was destoyed by terrorists 5 years ago.

They are not the same. It’s foolish to make them appear so.

This is not about humour, Thom, or about free speech.
This isn’t a comedy, and this isn’t being suppressed

Time does make a difference, it just takes a little more for some people. If you survived the Holocaust, or saw it first hand(or saw a few documentaries) you might not think it’s ever okay to make jokes.

If it’s just black and white history for you, you might think it’s okay to tell jokes about jews or dress up like a nazi (insert prince harry joke here).

Time also changes things. I’m not sure anyone would be too offened by an Irish joke in the USA because the Irish immigrants of yesteryear are no longer strange foreigners with strange ways, and are no longer hated.

This is not about having a thick or thin skin. It’s about having common sense. It’s about knowing how to market a music player and not making a complete ass of yourself.

I wonder how that ad came about.

Guy1: I think it would be a good idea to make an ad for our high-tech mp3 player that might piss a whole bunch of people off, but market it somewhere else.

Guy2: What if they find out ? Wouldn’t some of them be pissed and not buy our product and call and complain?

Guy1: How will they ever find out ? It’s not like there’s some sort of high-tech interconnected network that lets people share information at the speed of light.
And even if there was, why would they be interested in a high-tech mp3 player?

Guy2: *sigh*

What next, an ad with a space shuttle blowing up or a holocaust joke ?

‘Cause that would be really cool.

The way to deal with free speech you don’t like is with more free speech

Humour should be possible about anything, no matter if it happened yesterday, or 600 years ago. If you’re not allowed to joke about the WTC (or make commercials using the theme), then what is free speech worth?

Grow a thicker skin, I’d say to people offended by this (and similar matters such as the cartoon nonsense). Welcome to the world, and yes the world is a bitch. Get over it. That remote has an off button, you know.

I won’t kidnap anyone over this or riot, even though it’s still fresh.

I have this thing called tolerance, crass marketing aside.

Erm, because I’ve never been there, and neither I was watching much TV back in 2001?

No, it is not. Their faith is as current as WTC is for you.
