Hawking: Humans must colonize other planets

“Humans must colonize planets in other solar systems traveling there using “Star Trek”-style propulsion or face extinction, renowned British cosmologist Stephen Hawking said.”
I gotta say, I agree with him. I am a pessimist when it comes to the future of the Earth and its inhabitants. Then again, if we are not so good in protecting our own environment and put limits into population numbers, what gives us the right to spread to other worlds and eventually destroying them too?

If we’ll eventually ‘Star Trek’-style propulsion, hopefully we’ll be using ‘Star Trek’-style ethics too.
That’s not a given. Romulans don’t.
>Eugenia, you do get that Romulan’s aren’t real, right? ;-P
They aren’t ??!??

Faster than light travel is about as unlikely to happen within the coming 1000 years as is world peace. It requires all the teamed-up effort from mankind, and since we still kill each other over what deity we believe in, I doubt it happening any time soon.
