“A Sudanese billionaire is putting up millions in prize money to promote good governance in Africa and to encourage leaders on the world’s poorest continent to step down once their democratic mandates have expired.”
In a world where dictator after dictator are ruling most African countries, this is a very good initiative to try and persuade rulers to do the right thing, and even make sure that democracy actually operates by the time they leave office. While money should not be the No1 incentive for this, if it works, why not? This is a first step towards a better Africa, very clever.

I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist myself but mostly because I usually don’t trust others. I find it weird that suddenly an American TV Network decided to produce a TV series about a nuclear war. “Jericho” is that series, but this ain’t the ’80s when everyone was afraid that they will disintegrate into thin air after the Bombs fall. Normally, this show would have been huge only in the ’80s, so why produce it today? Conspirators say that some of Hollywood’s creations are ordered by the government and given Bush’s constant fear of the newly nuclear-capable countries, is “Jericho” a show on how to “direct” and “educate” people on how to behave if such tragedy occurs? I was not supporting this idea initially, but right now I have my doubts. Last night’s episode was all about the community, how to deal with violence and how to work together to get through the rough times and “share” your resources with others. IMO, the last 5 minutes of the show felt like a give away. Such “be nice” episodes don’t really exist in other shows. It felt a bit like propaganda.
