Bush vetoes embryonic stem-cell bill

President Bush on Wednesday used his veto power for the first time since taking office 5 1/2 years ago, saying that a embryonic stem-cell research bill “crossed a moral boundary.” The bill, which the Senate passed Tuesday, 63-37, would have loosened the restrictions on federal funding for stem-cell research. […] “This bill would support the taking of innocent human [embryonic] life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others,” Bush said Wednesday afternoon. “It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect. So I vetoed it.”

Right. Because nuclear warheads or Patriot missiles don’t take the lives of innocents. Because it’s ok to accept the killing of innocents as collateral damage in order to save our asses during a war, but it’s not ok to kill some embryos in order to save thousands of sick people. And because it’s ok to kill animals who live, breath and feel pain so we can pleasure our fat bellies, but it’s not ok to use some freely donated cells of a human body to save others.

What a religious asshat. It’s times like these that I feel that democracy in its current incarnation doesn’t work. What I mean is that either Bush was very good at deceiving most voters, or that most of these voters are indeed freaking idiots and Bush’s advisors relied in their idiocy. I am inclined to believe the latter.

And so do I. And not only Americans. Every democracy suffers from the idiocy of its participants.

Pro-life and pro-death penalty. Carrying a loaded gun is freedom, carrying an open beer is not.

These guys seriously need to get their priorities straight.

Regardless of whether it’s murder or not at the moment, think of the life and experiences, the development of a soul, lost.

Now weigh this with the fact that stem cells are also harvestable from umbilical fluid.

Email me back if you want to discuss.

There is no such thing.

Ok, let’s take that there is none because I frankly have no opinion on the matter. Let us instead focus on the topic of the post, not little technicalities.

Think of the life, the experiences, the joys in your life. Would you have wanted to miss them simply for the convenience of the mother?
