Free range chicken misconceptions on bird flu

My mom doesn’t understand the dangers of bird flu. I called her today in Greece and told her to stop eating chickens and she replied “oh, don’t worry, we only eat free range ones, from your aunt’s and grandmother’s herds”. What a huge mistake. She has imprinted in her so much the fact that free range chickens are healthier than the industrialized ones that she fails to realize that when it comes to bird flu, free range chickens are in bigger danger than industrialized ones. The free range hens are free, out and about. They come in close contact with ducks and other birds that can carry the virus. The industrialized hens don’t. But my mom doesn’t get it. For her, free range chickens equal “good”. :(

new PDA, new bluetooth headphones

I am getting a new PDA for a review, and a new stereo A2DP bluetooth headphone pair. The great thing about this particular PDA is that it has a VGA screen and the biggest battery of all: 2640 mAh. This is enough to surf via WiFi for at least 5 hours and use the PDA without WiFi for at least 12 hours (that’s with Win2003SE because with WinMobile 5 battery life is even better). We will see, after I conduct the tests. As for the A2DP stereo bluetooth headphones, I think I have 4 or 5 now. I’ve lost count.

Lawmakers defend Pakistan strike

U.S. politicians have expressed regret over the weekend killings of 18 civilians along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, but said the airstrike was justified by the erroneous belief that a top al Qaeda leader was among the group, which included women and children.”

That’s just fucking bullshit. How the fuck can you launch an air strike on a country that you are not in war with? This is a lot like the Canadians launch an air strike in Seattle, which is near the Canadian borders, and then say something along the lines of “oops, sorry, we thought that this rapist we are looking for was in Seattle”.

I can assure you, if Canada was to do something like that to US, that would be considered a war act by the US. And yet, the US continues to BULLY the rest of the world in this fashion. And they will continue to do so for a long time, because, well, they are the strongest nation in the world. This kind of behavior comes with the status, unfortunately, and I believe that if that was not US who bullies the world, it would be someone else. USA as a nation is NOT inheritely evil. People who believe otherwise, are terrorists or just conspiracy theorists who watch too much TV.

The rest of the countries in the world will have to accept USA’s superiority in power and do nothing for their own sake. Just like the EU and UN did nothing for the “who should govern the internet” issue a few months ago. EU said “if you don’t open the internet we will do our own”, and US said “the internet is ours, go fuck yourselves.” And indeed, the EU fucked themselves and did absolutely nothing about it. Just as I predicted.

Some people think that the rest of the world should do something to show US that they don’t govern the world, but this won’t happen, because US is governing the world — at least at the levels they are interested in. There is nothing to be gained by declaring an open war (economical, social or worse) to USA. You can’t win at this point. That’s why no sane western country tries to. And the muslim terrorists who try to, they get their ass kicked and have their innocent children and women die in airstrike attacks. The only way to “win” is via a possible economic collapse of US. It’s the only way. And through this economical collapse of US, it would be China to shine and become the new bully of the world. There is no way around it, there will always be a bully. Learn to live with that fact. There is no “real democracy” in the world through UN or NATO.

And yes, I am by nature a pessimistic person. Better be prepared for the worst rather than living in clouds and believe in fairytales about war and glory. I am a pacifist and anti-war first and foremost and I am 100% anti-chauvinist. I want to see the whole world be under a just UN-like government living in peace and with open borders. While on paper I am Greek, I am mostly considering myself an “Earthling” rather than a Greek or an American or whatever. I have lived in 5 countries in my lifetime so I have come to realize that everyone in this planet is equal and one and the same. Unification is the only way to go forward peacefully. But being the pessimist I am, I don’t think it is ever going to happen.
